2020 Census Drama

The world is nothing like you thought it was..

Here we go again…

President Trump is receiving quite a bit of push back from Democrats after announcing a question regarding a participant’s citizenship will be included in the 2020 census.

“After a thorough review of the legal, program, and policy considerations, as well as numerous discussions with the Census Bureau leadership and interested stakeholders, I have determined that reinstatement of a citizenship question on the 2020 decennial census is necessary to provide complete and accurate data in response to the DOJ request,” wrote Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross. “To minimize any impact on decennial census response rates, I am directing the Census Bureau to place the citizenship question last on the decennial census form.”

As would be predicted, immigrant-rights groups immediately condemned the new question claiming it discourages immigrants from participating and therefore, skewing the data collected and sabotaging the results to be in a certain favor.

But Ross claims that the citizenship data will actually be more accurate with the inclusion on of the question.

“The citizenship data provided to DOJ will be more accurate with the question than without it, which is of greater importance than any adverse effect that may result from people violating their legal duty to respond,” writes Ross.

Ross also argues that other nationally circulated questionnaires, like the American Community Survey, still include this question.

“The Department’s review demonstrated that collection of citizenship data by the Census has been a long-standing historical practice. Prior decennial census surveys of the entire United States population consistently asked citizenship questions up until 1950, and Census Bureau surveys of sample populations continue to ask citizenship questions to this day. In 2000, the decennial ‘ census “long form” survey, which was distributed to one in six people in the U.S., included a question on citizenship. Following the 2000 decennial census, the “long form” sample was replaced by the American Community Survey (“ACS”), which has included a citizenship question since 2005. Therefore, the citizenship question has been well tested,” writes Ross.

Prior to this decision, 17 democratic state attorney generals wrote Ross a letter last month urging him to keep the citizenship question out of the 2020 census.

“Including a question on the 2020 Census that would manipulate the count by scaring people away from being counted — causing grave harm to the states and our residents — is inconsistent with those obligations,” said the state attorney generals.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who was one of the letter’s authors, announced that he planned to file a suit against the policy change.

“We’re prepared to do what we must to protect California from a deficient Census. Including a citizenship question on the 2020 census is not just a bad idea — it is illegal,” said Becerra.

While several lawmakers applauded the decision arguing it’s the opinion of the U.S. citizens that the government is looking to get feedback from.

The census data is used to redraw House districts, to determine the number of House seats that are given to each state and the number of electoral votes a state gets in a presidential election.

#CitizenshipMatters Apportionment for Congressional seats and electoral votes should be based on citizens, not on residents. Otherwise, citizens are underrepresented… For example, California gets roughly three extra members of Congress based on estimates of illegal residents, tweeted Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH.)

“Only citizens should be given political power. Our current system leads to noncitizens being allocated political power in legislatures at the expense of citizens,” said J. Christian Adams, the president of the conservative Public Interest Legal Foundation. “I applaud the Trump Administration’s decision to include the citizenship question in the 2020 Census. It’s critical that the next redistricting cycle account for the citizen residents of districts so urban centers do not unfairly profit from the political subsidy that higher noncitizen populations provide.”

Some wonder if this decision brings the federal governmnet closer to no longer providing benefits to non-citizens.

It’s AMAZINGLY STUPID, and equally IRONIC, that California’s “ATTORNEY” General labels the inclusion of this question “illegal”…yet TOTALLY IGNORES THE FACT that those he is hoping to protect are ILLEGAL immigrants. How goddamn stupid…and arrogant…are these Liberals, that they can include both their arguments, and the incredibly obvious answers to them, in their same comments…???

The motivation of the cultish DEMONCRATS, is pathetic! They want mindless voters!, that is why the chase illegals and dead people. DISGUSTING!

If you come into this country legally, you should want to assimilate, gain all rights and benefits, by becoming a citizen, being able to vote, to speak your mind , pay taxes and contribute to the well-being of our country as a whole. Where is the incentive for illegal immigrants to do so?

The illegals do vote but illegally, you would be more accurate if you said vote legally!

Citizens have nothing to worry about, illegals do: No free benefits at the expense of American citizens…….. and THAT money will count as Mexico building the wall once re-directed.

Answering that question is what a real American would be proud to do. So much for the illegals who bring with them the turd-world country they came from. A better life for them depends on a worse life for us. THIS is what brings us down. And the leftard bureaucats are what keep us down.

YOU NAILED IT! I couldn’t have said it better myself and I applaud all citizens that feel the same!

First three comments are right on! Thank you citizens!

Fifty years ago, the Census form contained the question: “How many toilets do you have in your home?”

I would say the “titzenship question” is one Hell of a lot more important than that one on the 1970 census form.

The hysteria about putting this question back on the census is about a couple of things: The number of representatives a state has should be based on how many citizens are in that state. The other really horrible thing would be if the big lie of “around 11 million illegal aliens in the US” was exposed and we found out the number is closer to 50 million. The citizens of the US are already fed up with so many illegals. Imagine how they would feel if they discovered the real number was 50 million illegals sucking America dry.

Who cares what immigrants…..especially….. illegal immigrants, think. They are crowding out
citizens from schools, DMVs, emergency rooms, etc. and 90% pay no taxes
Most contribute nothing to this great country. This is all about votes for the Democratic Party.

Rr ll The best way to not cooperate would be to just not answer the question. If millions of citizens just left the question blank it would make the question useless.

THE BIG DEAL HERE IS THA THE BODY COUNT IN THE CENSUS IS USED TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF CONGRESS PERSONS FOR EACH STATE. IF THEY ARE ILLEGALS AND ARE ALLOWED TO VOTE, IT SERIOUSLY SQUES BOTH WHO IS ELECTED AND BY WHOM. A NEAT TRICK OF ILLEGALS IS THEY MAY GET A SEAT IN CONGRESS AND THEY CAN VOTYE FOR MORE FREEBIES. WE MUSYT ENFORCE THE CONSTITUTION WHICH REQUIRES CITIZENSHIP TO VOTE. WE MUS FOLLOW THE RULES ON CENSUS TO DETERMINE THE NUMBER OF CITIZENS IN THE COUNTRY!

I agree. Citizens count when it comes to apportionment of voting districts. Immigrants don’t!

PROVE YOU ARE A CITIZEN! If you are in the LEGAL process of Becoming a Citizen, that’s Great! If you ARE a citizen, that’s great. If you are Illegally here and not trying to become a citizen… Go back where you came from, THEN Start Over and try to LEGALLY become a citizen, or leave.

I have read all the comments, I agree with them and noticed none of the anti-citizenship people have weighed in with their un-American comments. They will be the same ones that are against showing legal state or federal photo IDs before voting. I cannot see where they have a leg to stand on, everyone who drives an automobile is mandated to have a valid driver’s license with their photo on it and as I recall, the exception seems to be Florida if I remember correctly, they let Muslim women cover their faces except for their eyes because of their anti-Christian religion! American seems to be bending over backward for foreigners and illegals! Mexico is a prime example, their government actually helps illegals to enter the U.S. and scream bloody murder if one of their criminals gets hurt by our border patrol and heaven help the US if one of them should be executed for murder! If Mexico catches an illegal alien from south of their border or anywhere else, the criminal faces a serious jail sentence and, their jails are not vacation spots like our jails are!

Will the response to the citizenship question just be yes/no? Or will it also include responses for non-citizens who are present in the US legally – e.g., holders of student visas or green cards, or spouses of US citizens?

  15. Post Author

Of course the democrates want that question on the census why else do you think, like California is allowing all the illegals to live on the streets? it to get them counted so they can get more representatives. They are desperate to get Trump out and would go as far as ruining some of California as well as other states to do it!
Democrates are not for America, if you haven’t realized that by now, their out to keep power so they can keep on collecting the money they rip off us! They really don’t care about you and I they care about themselves or else they would have given us better medical care and few taxes and building more business and jobs as Trump is doing in one year and they had an open 8 years and how far did they go!

You can also be here LEGALLY and NOT BE A CITIZEN and HAVE NO FEAR and BE COUNTED. So all the SCREAMING, YELLING & LAWSUITS are about ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS … NOT about NON-CITIZENS.

I think the truth is as someone wrote, it’s all about numbers! The more numbers, the more bodies in Washington to represent them also, the more of the people’s money will be given to them based on those skewed numbers!
