“Disrespectful” Eagles uninvited from White House event

Perhaps the quickest way to put this issue in its proper perspective is first to recognize who’s actually at fault for “disrespecting” a traditional White House event, welcoming this year’s “Super Bowl champs.”

The significance and tradition of inviting sports teams dates back to 1865, when President Andrew Johnson welcomed the Brooklyn Atlantics and Washington Nationals amateur baseball clubs. The event was designed to pay tribute to a team’s accomplishments with all of the ceremonial trimmings, including the singing of our National Anthem.

Fast forward back to the Philadelphia Eagles, who announced after their “Cinderella season,” only 9-player (out of 53) would be coming to the White House, illustrating a clear lack of respect for this President, by the team.

The President’s decision to call off the sideshow of disgruntled and disenfranchised million dollar athletes happened after the team reported that they would send a ”small group” of players.

However “Trump being Trump” told them not to bother tweeting out late Monday, “The Philadelphia Eagles Football Team was invited to the White House. Unfortunately, only a small number of players decided to come, and we canceled the event. Staying in the Locker Room for the playing of our National Anthem is as disrespectful to our country as kneeling. Sorry!”

The preemptive strike didn’t sit well with lifelong Democrat, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney who quickly denounced the President’s decision calling him, “not a true patriot” and “a fragile egomaniac!”

Adding in a prepared statement that, “Disinviting them from the White House only proves that our President is not a true patriot, but a fragile egomaniac obsessed with crowd size and afraid of the embarrassment of throwing a party to which no one wants to attend.”

Astoundingly within the mayor’s prepared text he actually supports the President’s reasoning for calling off the event, in that the “TEAM” (53 players) didn’t “want to attend”…so why the squabble?

The mayor rambled on, “These are players who stand up for the causes they believe in and who contribute in meaningful ways to their community. They represent the diversity of our nation, a nation in which we are free to express our opinions.”

The mayor continued rambling on and on, “The Eagles call the birthplace of our democracy home, so it’s no surprise that this team embodies everything that makes our country and our city great. Their athletic accomplishments on the field led to a historic victory this year. Fans all across the country rallied behind them because we like to root for the underdog and we feel joy when we see the underdogs finally win. I’m equally proud of the Eagles’ activism off the field. These are players who stand up for the causes they believe in and who contribute in meaningful ways to their community. They represent the diversity of our nation, a nation in which we are free to express our opinions.

Another “diversity player” wide receiver Torrey Smith had announced early on he would not attend the White House ceremony, however, felt slighted after hearing the news that the Eagles had been “put-out-to-pasture” by the President said the President “continues to spread the false narrative that players are anti-military.”

Adding that players who wanted to attend “should’ve been able to go,” but canceling the event was “a cowardly act.”

However, the White House will still hold a ceremony on Tuesday for 1,000 Eagles fans, minus the Eagles. The ceremony will actually honor true heroes those individuals who make it possible for million dollar athletes to act like adolescent fools, and in which the President will pay tribute saying he “will honor our great country, pay tribute to the heroes who fight to protect it, and loudly and proudly play the National Anthem.”

People don’t get it! They think by disrespecting the na they are proving a point. The na isn’t about the sitting president or the cops. It’s about the men and women who fought and died to this day for America. The na was made a long time ago based on those brave people, regardless of sex, race and every thing else. If these persons wish to disrespect the na then they’re hypocrites. Bombs bursting in air. The na is about Americans standing side by side, regardless of skin color sex and everything else.

I agree with Our President’s decision. Some of the athletes today are selfish and spoiled. They are paid the big dollars and continue to whine…Get a grip and get a life.
If some of you teams keep this up you will be getting less and less of a crowd at
    your games….Shameful..

Really Don, It’s not about you, and not the military either. Its about honoring the super bowl champs, whoever shows up representing the team, give them a handshake and a beer. Remember the Eagles team never took a Knee for the anthem at any time, just only when to prey to God. So get your facts straight, suck it up, learn the words to the songs, and act like a grownup already. Signed a lifelong Republican and Eagles fan.

Trump has proven, time and again, that he is UnAmerican and not a patriot. He needs to be removed from the Executive Mansion that he did not win in a rightful election.

    • Post Author

Yeah, well I think you should be removed from the Untited States and sent to N. Korea where you will find a more agreeable political climate.

    • Post Author

Well, you are a credit for all Americans. “Trump has proven, time and again”
he is a true and patriotic American. You need to be removed from society,
you haven’t a clue about the election, it’s the American’s that put him into office. This post has got to be another liberal decoy writing this crap….

The players in all cases r not disrespecting the military. Let’s get this right. They r demonstrating against police brutality and discrimination against minorities. That is their right. The president never seems to get anything right and lies to the public which in turns causes a fracture in our country. There r those that blindly follow his lies w/o doing their own research to expose the truth and those of us who simply have stopped believing anything he says bc we have discovered that they r lies!

Good for the President, I support his actions.

Are you kidding me! Not one Eagle took a knee in the super bowl. Please tell the president to think before he makes yet another blunder with his reflex to the NFL. Is it because he wasn’t able to buy an NFL team all those years ago? I love sports. I hate to see this cynical response to disrespecting the flag and military. This kneeling, which the Eagles DID NOT KNEEL, is about racial discrimination and police brutality and murder of African Americans . As a Republican and sports fan I whole heartedly respect and back the players and not the inaccurate and politically motivated adgenda of the president.

    • Post Author

You’re a republican and conservative, yeah, right. Do you know how many posts I’ve seen through the years by “conservatives” filled with left wing hate and propaganda? More than I care to remember.

Oh, now, they are just upset that he is meeting and far exceding voter expectations. Just like the “Hildabeast” would have, in finishing the complete destruction of a great nation started by “the obama”. BTW, intentionally left lower case.

Read your intelligent comment and I must agree. His Donaldness has far exceeded my expectations. I greatly underestimated his ass-hatted-ness. As to his “accomplishments”. What accomplishments ? He’s screwed up everything he’s touched while stealing tens of millions and counting. Damn, what Planet are you living on?

We the fans don’t all think alike but the Eagles decided to make a foolish statement by breaking tradition, a tradition we the fan look forward to all the hoopla entertainment. In the United States Of America we all practice some sought of American and Family tradition and as Americans we must always respect the rights of others.
Don’t disrespect the rights of other wanting to celebrate our tradition that’s meant for the Brave and Fallen solders.
It’s also way of life celebrating and enjoying our freedom without retaliation or threat by anyone because the tradition of freedom we all enjoy must be preserved at all cost.
Until You wear those boots that the brave walk in don’t disrespect our men and women that fought and died to keep our American Flag Flying and show the world the freedom worth while fighting for.
    Hey Eagle
Imagine if every Football Game you traveled to play your game and only a small percentage of the
fans showed up and the rest practice their freedom and boycott every home game you played!!
How long will it take before the EAGLES start respecting our Our AMERICAN FLAG
I’m A USMC Combat Disabled Veteran and Please stop disrespecting MY FLAG

Why only blame the NFL? President Trump does not respect the position of president governing an entire country. This is all smoke and mirrors. Trump plays dirty, goes on the attack, creates divisiveness, makes every thing about him, then accuses people of being unpatriotic if they call him out. George BushSr, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George Bush Jr and Barak Obama deserve far more credit for honoring the role of president and the prestige it means to the American people. I have lived under 12 presidents. I may not have agreed with them all but each one understood the significance of statesmanlike behavior. Erratic Hardball from the president isn’t mean for tweeter feeds. unsubscribe me please! I’m sure you will hate me for valuing my rights of independent thought and my love for true democracy.

Trump is raising the bar for anyone attempting to run for President. Americans are tired of RINO Republicans and elitist Democrats who care more about the agenda given to them by their handlers than true American values. After one year “we the people” are impressed and in due time America will ask why they even elected the previous Presidents or did they ?

What about a personal invitation to those players who wanted to come to the WH, not at representatives of the team, but as individuals? I think that would be a classy gesture by the president.

Most of these NFL players who choose to kneel or stay in the locker room during the National Anthem are the disrespectful ones. Very few of them give back and some are known for domestic violence against women yet these are the men young people look up too. If it weren’t for men and women who have fought to keep our freedom they would not have their millions nor their freedoms. They don’t deserve the recognition of the White House.

Fuck all those no brain moolingyons. Send them out to a battlefield making 30k a year and we will see how quickly these spearchuckers can really run.

Hey Eagles,,,you bunch of mental idiots. Put the freakin shovel down. The hole is deep enough for you’r team and the NFL. Trump 2020 KAG!!

I live in the Phila area. It’s a huge deal to win any championship. It is a national honor to be an invited guest to OUR White House by OUR President. If the entire team cannot attend, then they are NOT a team to be honored and recognized by OUR national representative, the President of ALL our citizens. If the team does not have the patriotism to act and behave properly and represent the citizens that paid for their stadium with OUR tax dollars, I see no reason to fund their place of business, the stadium WE Citizens paid for. They have a pretty good scam going, and this is how they pay us back. I’m done with over-priced ignorant Socialist-minded celebrities. They don’t represent me or my city or country.

I think all the NFL stadiums need to be self supporting, and not bottomless pits to waste tax dollars for non-governmental entertainment venues. They are for-profit businesses, not sports welfare recipients. The team owners expect the taxpayers to pay to attend games at OUR citizen-sponsored stadiums. You can’t have it both ways. Welfare sports or for-profit private sports business.

  23. Post Author

I believe the President is in the right here. Why force something no one wants, what’s the point. Besides, the ones who should be recognized are the military personnel who protect our country, not overpaid athletes who are paid to entertain.

  24. Post Author

In fact, none of the Eagles knelt during the playing of the National Anthem nor did they stay in the locker room when it was played. As for the one thousand “Eagle fans” who attended the ceremony, there were probably no true Eagle fans among them. The were White House staffers and Capitol Hill interns to serve as stand ins for the true ones, of whom I am one, although I’ve lived in DC for 41 years. Just another example of an insecure childish President who can’t handle a bruise to his ego making a truly trivial matter into a big brouhaha. Pathetic

Mayor resorts to name calling, no surprise there. I have to agree that Donald Trump also has the right to protest the Eagles lack of respect for the thousands that have sacrificed their life and fortunes that earned these rights, It seems that the Eagles bite the hand that feeds them. Select another way to protest the injustice. Killing our law officers, also brings no credit to your cause.

  26. Post Author

I could not agree more with Mr. President Trump. If this asshole organization wishes to disrespect our Republic and the Office of President – STAY HOME. The only change I might make is to personally invite the 9 Players who DID want to attend, on an individual basis. That’s common Courtesy.

Do you really think the Eagles care about going to the White House to meet a man that call people sons of bitches, and 99% of the things that come out of his mouth is a lie, who care about meeting trump, I see you people Love him, and that’s fine, but remember you should Love the Lord thy God, and the Bible say KJV Ephesians 4:29 say Let no corrupt Communication, but that which is good to be use of edifying that it may minister grace unto the hearers, you people are putting out lies, after lies, do you people have a soul, God is not going to let you people keep Keep doing with you are doing, the Bible is clear on sin, you people are so corrupt,
