Yahoo News recently reported a story that revealed a GoFundMe campaign titled “We The People Will Fund The Wall” that is currently raising millions of dollars to support the building of President Trump’s border wall. Thus far, almost 20,000 people have donated their own money to contribute to the 5 billion dollars that it will take to build the wall.
Originally, the fundraising team that started the fund were only aiming to raise $200 million, but when they saw that they actually raised over $1 million in only a week, they decided to bump the amount they are raising to $1 billion.
This initiative has proven that not everyone sides with the far-left who tend to believe that America should ignore the importance of border protection from illegal immigrants.
So what does this mean?
The idea that regular citizens can come together to pitch their own funds into the pot to protect America is a wonderful achievement. No longer can the far-left point the finger at Trump and claim that he and he alone is establishing a wall that will rob American citizens of tax money to build something that they are not supporting.
Additionally, Democrats have lost their ability to claim that Trump fails to represent the wants, needs, and desires of the people within the United States. The moment the GoFundMe account was established, and people began to donate their personal funds, it revealed that many Americans believed in the importance of the border wall.
The House couldn’t be any happier
Press secretary Sarah Sanders stated that the administration is exploring different sources to pay for Trump’s proposed wall along the U.S. Mexican border, according to Fox News. Sanders shared that in addition to different funding sources, the administration would also use money given to them through congressional appropriations that would contribute to the $5 billion the president needs to protect the border.
It appears that the founders of the crowdfunding campaign feel that they will be that “different” funding source that the administration is looking for. “If the 63 million people who voted for Trump each pledge $80, we can build the wall,” stated Brian Kolfage, an Air Force veteran who created the GoFundMe page.
“It’s up to Americans to help out and pitch in to get this project rolling,” he wrote on the campaign page. Kolfage pushes the idea that even if each Trump supporter only donates half, that will still be half the wall.
Money talks louder than words ever could
With citizens stepping up and raising funds to build the border wall it becomes difficult for many politicians to argue the wall’s importance. Americans are becoming slowly frustrated with their government’s lack of taking a firm initiative to protect the very country in which we all live.
The people within the United States are showing that they are not afraid to put their money where their mouth is, and as such, they are placing their dollars into their own causes. Money will build the wall, and that is exactly what some Americans are determined to assist with. If enough money is raised by the GoFundMe account to significantly contribute to the border wall, we will probably begin to see more Americans taking a stand with their wallets, rather than their voices.
If money can make an initiative come into fruition, then it is just a matter of time before more Americans support ideas and projects that are created by government officials. This indeed puts the power back into the hands of the people.
