For many years now, people claiming to be scientists concerned about sustainability and the future of all life on Earth have been insisting that human activities are endangering the planet by causing global warming.
This is a very complex topic but can be broken down into simpler terms so everyday people (the rest of us) can understand it.
First, let’s examine the alleged problem.
In 2015, the United Nations (UN) held a Sustainable Development Summit. These global leaders were very ambitious. Basically, they conspired to fix every single thing that they consider wrong in the world today, from mass immigration to civil rights to climate change.
After the summit, the UN published 17 goals to save the world. (This is neither exaggeration nor hyperbole – no joking around here.)
The UN’s Sustainable Development Goal #13 is to “Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts, increasing every countries [sic] resilience and ability to adapt to climate change, improving education and awareness and implementing national measures against climate change…”
The UN’s sustainability goal #14 is to “Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development, reducing pollution, ocean acidification and overfishing.”
The UN’s sustainability goal #15 is to “Conserve, restore and sustainably use terrestrial ecosystems, combat deforestation and desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.”
In plain English, the UN has adopted the position that global warming (“climate change”) is a real thing – not merely a theoretical guess based on limited scientific data. Furthermore, these international leaders know best and exactly what to do to stop global warming (whether it exists or not), clean up the oceans, preserve the world’s forests, and prevent animal extinctions.
For the record, in November 2018, U.S. President Donald J. Trump summarized his administration’s position on global warming in four short words:
“I don’t believe it.”
Second, let’s take a look at the actual science behind what sustains life on planet Earth.
For those of us who never took chemistry, slept through class, or simply don’t remember the details that long ago, the biological process that keeps us and our entire planet alive is called photosynthesis.
In a nutshell, plants use three things to produce metabolic energy through photosynthesis: sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide (a form of carbon represented by the symbol CO2: C stands for one carbon molecule and O2 for two oxygen molecules. The waste by-product of plant photosynthesis is oxygen. You know, the stuff in the air we breathe, the stuff all animals, including humans, need to stay alive.
All life on Earth is carbon-based. Carbon is everywhere, literally. It is inside our bodies and all around us, in plants and rocks. Carbon is a fundamental and vitally important chemical element on Earth. Without it, plants would no longer be able to photosynthesize energy and expel oxygen. Consequently, life as we know it would cease to exist on our beautiful planet.
Evidently, the UN and other global warmists – the people who say the planet is heating up to life-extinction levels unless we cut back the Earth’s “carbon footprint,” as they call it – didn’t take chemistry. Neither did their expert scientific consultants.
If you are unfamiliar with the term, an individual’s carbon footprint is “the amount of CO2 that you cause to be emitted into the atmosphere based on your everyday activities.”
Global warmists blame us humans for polluting the Earth with carbon emissions from factories and automobiles. They say that the gases build up in the atmosphere and create what is known as the Greenhouse Effect. A greenhouse traps sunlight and CO2, warming the plants inside while providing them two of the three things required for photosynthesis. All the greenhouse gardener has to add is water to promote healthy plant growth.
According to Mike Adams, the Health Ranger:
“Environmentalists have even declared carbon dioxide to be a ‘pollutant’ even when it is the single most important molecule for supporting photosynthesis and nearly all plant life across the planet.”
Adams doesn’t mince words with his low opinion about the global warmists:
“Only a complete moron would declare war on the molecule of life that sustains trees, forests, plants, food crops, grasses, algae and seaweed, yet that’s exactly what environmentalists have done.”
