On the heels of the dismal performance of former Special Counsel Robert Mueller, comes this stunning news by the DOJ. The Justice Department stated that secret recordings made by the FBI of Trump’s campaign aide George Papadopoulos meeting overseas with a government source (spy) in 2016 were altered. In fact, “exculpatory” evidence was removed before the written transcript of the recording were presented to the FISA Court – in the FBI’s subsequent applications for surveillance warrants.
A source familiar with the ongoing DOJ investigation told Fox News that Barr and Durham are reviewing why the material was left out of applications to surveil Papadopoulos and another former Trump campaign aide, Carter Page.
The recordings in question pertain to conversations between government sources and Papadopoulos, which were memorialized in transcripts.
When asked by one of the Fox hosts how serious the elimination of key evidence was regarding the entire Russian probe, the source said “I think it’s the smoking gun.”
“These recordings have exculpatory evidence. It is standard tradecraft to record conversations with someone like Papadopoulos—especially when they are overseas and there are no restrictions.”
Adding that the DOJ is also taking a closer look at the actual start date of the original FBI investigation into potential collusion between members of the Trump campaign and the Russians, which some investigators believe began earlier than alleged.
Attorney General Bill Barr and U.S. Attorney from Connecticut John Durham tasked with the investigation on how this thing began believe that the start date is also extremely important in reviewing what actually took place.
Thus far we know that Papadopoulos was an unwitting dupe, set up by the FBI and used as a backchannel into the Trump campaign, meeting abroad in 2016 with Professor Joseph Mifsud (an FBI mole) in London, claiming he had some damaging information on Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, Papadopoulos in turn told another shady character Australian diplomat Alexander Downer (another FBI informant) about what had transpired.
However, Papadopoulos didn’t only meet with Mifsud and Downer while overseas, he also met with another long-time FBI informant, Cambridge professor Stefan Halper and his female associate, who went under the alias, Azra Turk. Papadopoulos told Fox News that he saw Turk three times in London: once over drinks, once over dinner and once with Halper.
He also told Fox News back in May that he always suspected he was being recorded. Further, he tweeted during the Mueller testimony about “recordings” of his meeting with Downer.
The elaborate Intelligence and Counterintelligence operations targeting both Carter Page and George Papadopoulos, two low-level campaign aides was a brilliant strategy in getting the FISA Court to issue warrants, in that having a high profile individual associated with the Trump campaign might have raised additional questions by the judges in obtaining surveillance warrants.
In May before this breaking news regarding the altered transcripts by the FBI, former congressmen Trey Gowdy may have alluded to the edited transcripts in securing illegal surveillance warrants by the FISA Court.
“If the bureau’s going to send in an informant, the informant’s going to be wired, and if the bureau is monitoring telephone calls, there’s going to be a transcript of that,” Gowdy said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
The former congressman then acknowledges that he’s aware of transcripts used in the FISA application, including the exculpatory information that was purposely omitted by the FBI.
Stating, “Some of us have been fortunate enough to know whether or not those transcripts exist. But they haven’t been made public, and I think one in particular … has the potential to actually persuade people,” he continued. “Very little in this Russia probe I’m afraid is going to persuade people who hate Trump or love Trump. But there is some information in these transcripts that has the potential to be a game-changer if it’s ever made public.”
The President has declassified all the materials pertaining to the Russian probe, those declassified documents are in the hands of the Attorney General, and no doubt the reason why Democrats are freaking out, calling for additional investigations, knowing that the day of reckoning is coming.
