What began as a self-serving attack from Democratic Congressmen Elijah Cummings – concerning the crisis at our Southern border – ended in a series of tweets on July 27th from the President.
This ignited a new firestorm concerning Cummings time representing Maryland’s 7th congressional district and the systemic third-world conditions that have existed within Baltimore for over 4-decades, under Democratic leadership.
The dust-up began when House Oversight Chairman Elijah Cummings criticized the U.S. Border Patrol’s treatment of migrant children in government-run detainment centers near the U.S.
The 13 term congressmen also continued his attack against the President, throughout the course of the month raising once again the call for impeachment after the disastrous Mueller hearings.
However not content with attacking the President the ethically challenged 68-year-old legislator decided to go after the President’s daughter last Thursday by passing a resolution to subpoena Ivanka Trump’s personal emails and phone records, which no doubt infuriated the President.
This promoted a volley of tweets from the President reminding Cummings of the blight griping Baltimore for countless decades under a succession of corrupt Democratic mayors, along with his 20-years of representing the 7th congressional district, in which a large section of Baltimore is also included.
Trump tweeted that Cummings should not be “shouting and screaming at the great men & women of Border Patrol about conditions at the Southern Border when actually his Baltimore district is FAR WORSE and more dangerous. His district is considered the worst in the USA,” adding that the House Oversight Chairman is a “brutal bully,” and that Baltimore is a “very dangerous and filthy place.”
Cummings responded to the President’s harsh tweets, “Mr. President, I go home to my district daily. Each morning, I wake up, and I go and fight for my neighbors. It is my constitutional duty to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch. But, it is my moral duty to fight for my constituents.”
Baltimore officials along with congressional and 2020 Democrats quickly came to the defense of Cummings attempting to once again play the race card.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calf., defended Cummings as “a champion in the Congress and the country for civil rights and economic justice, a beloved leader in Baltimore and a deeply valued colleague.”
Adding “We all reject racist attacks against him and support his steadfast leadership,” added Pelosi, a Baltimore native.
Baltimore City Council President Brandon Scott also chimed in saying, “There is no greater champion for Baltimore and cities like Baltimore than Congressman Elijah Cummings. He has undoubtedly been and continues to be a hero across Baltimore and across our great country.”
Even Sen. Bernie Sanders, tweeted Saturday that Trump’s attacks were tied to his ongoing investigations of the administration.
“Here’s what’s really going on,” Sanders tweeted. “@RepCummings has been busy revealing the failures of the Trump administration and exposing the greed of Trump’s friends in the pharmaceutical industry, and our racist President doesn’t like it.”
However back in 2015 and again in 2016 “Ol Bernie” was singing a different tune during a walking tour of Baltimore’s blighted neighborhoods, of boarded-up rat-infested row houses.
“Residents of Baltimore’s poorest boroughs have lifespans shorter than people living under dictatorship in North Korea. That is a disgrace.
— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) May 5, 2016
According to the Baltimore, Sun Sanders’ characterizations of the Baltimore area are similar to statements President Trump made.
“Anyone who took the walk that we took around this neighborhood would not think you’re in a wealthy nation. You would think that you were in a Third World country.”
Adding, “Today what we’re talking about is a community in which half of the people don’t have jobs,” he said at a 2015 press conference. “We’re talking about a community in which there are hundreds of buildings that are uninhabitable.”
The stunning hypocrisy of characters like Sanders, Pelosi, and Cummings is typical of Democrats who have long ago abdicated any responsibly of actually rehabilitating the inner cities of America.
The facts regarding the overwhelming poverty and degradation in
Baltimore is simply stunning. In a recent BBC scathing expose regarding poverty in America, at least 25% of Baltimoreans live in poverty.
One resident told the television network that “despair is a way of living” in a congressional district where second and third generations of Americans live in poverty.
The resident said the houses are “rat-infested, regardless of what you do as a person living there, roaches, mice, and an epidemic of bed bugs.”
“The neighborhoods have fallen apart, not because the people are bad people,” the man said.
According to a Washington Post report in 2015, “the average life expectancy in some of the city’s poorest neighborhoods is nearly 20 years below the national average.”
