Governor Gavin Newsom is turning California into a rogue nation-state that is challenging federal authority and alienating large numbers of voters. Recent legislation signed into law by the Democrat governor that benefits illegal immigrants over U.S. taxpayers has provoked two recall bills from Republicans fed up with the rapidly-rising tide of extreme liberalism being practiced in the Golden State.
The first recall was submitted by Erin Cruz, a Republican vying for California’s 36th Congressional District in the U.S. House next year, and approved for circulation by the secretary of state on September 6, 2019.
The recall petition initiated by Cruz charges that the governor’s bad management since he was sworn into office on January 7, 2019, has produced poor schools, deteriorating infrastructure, high prices for gas and utilities, and rising homelessness and debt. Her <https://ballotpedia.org/Gavin_Newsom_recall,_Governor_of_California_(2019)#Second_recall_effort_.28submitted_by_James_Veltmeyer.3B_approved_for_circulation.29> recall petition</a> also criticized Newsom’s support of new laws that dispense aid from the state’s coffers to fund illegal migrant residents, as well as his proposed Medicare for All program:
“Over a decade of proven mismanagement of-policies, public monies and resources, and of leadership have led to the deterioration of California communities, poor schools, crumbling infrastructure, the outrageous rise of costs from gas to utilities, mass housing crisis, frightening increase in homelessness, and insurmountable debt…all caused by gross mismanagement. Massive increased public safety risk by pushing forward laws and policies like Medicare for All or Universal Healthcare, and laws protecting and helping illegal aliens. Putting Californians and United States Citizens, including our veterans, last.”
Supporters of the Cruz recall must collect 1,495,709 signatures before the February 13, 2020 deadline to force a recall election.
James Veltmeyer filed the second recall petition which was approved for circulation by the California Secretary of State on September 27, 2019. Supporters of the Veltmeyer recall must submit the same number of signatures (1,495,709) by March 5, 2020, to force a recall election.
The Veltmeyer recall petition calls out the radical left-wing governor over tax increases, the epidemic homelessness in major California urban centers, sanctuary city policies, and providing healthcare to illegal immigrants. The Veltmeyer recall petition breaks out the four areas of concern:
“Health care for illegal aliens. He seeks to make California taxpayers pay for the health care of criminal lawbreakers who entered our nation illegally at a starting cost of over $100 million. This policy will serve as a to attract thousands more illegal immigrants to California which will lead to skyrocketing costs and additional burdens on physicians and hospitals.
“Tax increases. Despite a massive budget surplus of $21 billion, he proposes more than $2 billion in additional taxes on the people of including a water tax. California already has the highest taxes in the nation which are driving away from our best residents and businesses.
“Homelessness. He has allowed our major cities to be overrun by homelessness, creating a threat to public health and hygiene and leading to Third World-like conditions and diseases in places like Los Angeles and San Francisco.
“Sanctuary State & Cities. He has violated and subverted federal immigration law by encouraging “Sanctuary State” and city policies that shield criminal illegals aliens from law enforcement and immigration authorities, including vicious and brutal MS-13 gang members.”
In August 2019, Gov. Newsom spoke out about the two petitions, calling them an “unwarranted recall effort that will cost California taxpayers $81 million dollars!” Newsom then blamed “political extremists supporting President Trump’s hateful attacks on California,” for fueling voter disapproval.
Conservatives are understandably upset with their wildcat governor. On July 9, 2019, California became the first U.S. state to provide health benefits to non-citizens – all at taxpayer expense – by making low-income illegals age 25 and younger eligible to receive Medicaid payouts. <https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201920200AB4> Assembly Bill 4</a> broadens eligibility for Medi-Cal, is projected to cover about 90,000 people and cost taxpayers $98 million. (California had already extended Medicaid eligibility to children 18 and younger regardless of immigration status.)
Gov. Newsom has effectively taken money away from poor Americans to give to poor illegals regarded as future voters who will no doubt pay back the favor by electing more far-left Democrats in California.
Former California assemblyman <https://nationalinterest.org/blog/buzz/california-expanding-government-health-care-more-illegal-immigrants-here%E2%80%99s-what-expect> Chuck DeVore</a> pointed out the negative consequence this healthcare give-away will have:
“Providing a new public benefit to a group of people in the nation illegally will incentivize more people to risk breaking U.S. immigration law to settle in California.”
To further that end, Newsom just signed a new law that permits illegals in California to serve on government boards and commissions effective January 1, 2020. This new legislation also expands California’s college student loan program to include illegals brought into the country as children – the Dreamers – who attend the University of California or California State University schools. Finally, arrests of immigration violators in state courthouses will be banned.
President <https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article232173562.html> Donald Trump</a> criticized Newsom’s leftist political bias which is robbing Californians to pay illegals
“If you look at what they’re doing in California, how they’re treating people, they don’t treat their people as well as they treat illegal immigrants. So at what point does it stop? It’s crazy what they’re doing. It’s crazy. And it’s mean, and it’s very unfair to our citizens.”
