CNN didn’t waste any time going from impeachment coverage of President Trump 24/7 to a total media blackout of Senator Lindsey Graham’s live opening statement concerning abuses by the FBI from the Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz Wednesday morning.
The South Carolina Senator is the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee tasked with overseeing exactly what transpired during the presidential election regarding the Trump campaign — along with laying out a detailed roadmap concerning multiple instances of FISA abuse by the FBI against individuals associated with President Trump’s 2016 campaign.
However rather then airing the senator’s key remarks live, the network decided to air “CNN Newsroom With Poppy Harlow and Jim Sciutto” then segue into a panel discussion with CNN’s National Security Analyst Susan Hennessey and Bloomberg reporter Sahil Kapur about the impeachment inquisition.
If that wasn’t enough of a media blackout, the network then decided to air 4-back to back commercials, including several interviews with an assortment of guests including an interview with Rep. Tom Reed (R-NY), and a segment reporting on a whistleblower raised concerns about Boeing’s 737 Super Max planes.
After almost 40-minutes into the FISA hearings, CNN turned their attention to what was taking place on Capitol Hill, in particular with the Senate Judiciary Committee, airing almost a full 15-seconds of Graham’s opening remarks, which was quite a contrast from portly Jerry Nadler’s opening statement during the House Judiciary Committee’s impeachment hearing.
Both opening remarks took place at the exact same 9:00 A.M. time slot, however only one took priority for CNN. By contrast, Fox News aired Graham’s opening statement in full, as it also did with Nadler. Even MSNBC decided to air most of the hearing live.
CNN has thus far not commented as to why it didn’t air any of the IG hearing.
However social media did indeed take notice. In fact, the Trump campaign and Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel criticized the network for not airing Graham’s remarks despite airing Democrats’ comments in full.
“They are COVERING UP the truth. They are nothing more than propaganda for the Democrats!”

“CNN aired everything Schiff & Nadler had to say. Why aren’t they showing @LindseyGrahamSC? Is it because the facts of how the FBI mistreated @realDonaldTrump contradict their coverage over the last 3 years?”

Perhaps the reason why CNN decided not to air Senator Graham’s opening remarks was what the South Carolina lawmaker would say regarding the media’s failure to do their jobs honorably, as our Founders had intended.
Straight out of the gate, Graham chided the media stating:
“There’s been a lot of media reports about your report before it was issued. And I remember reading all these headlines, ‘Lawful investigation with a few irregularities.’ ‘Everything okay, low-level people kind of got off track. If that’s what you get out of this report, you clearly didn’t read it. If that’s your take that this thing was lawfully predicated and that’s the main point, you missed the entire report. How do you get a headline like that? That’s what you want it to be. You want it to be that and nothing more. And I can assure you if this had been a Democratic president, going through what President Trump had gone through that would not have been the headline. The headline would be ‘FBI takes the law into its own hands,’ ‘Biased agents cut corners, lie to the court, ignore exoneration.”
Graham continued, “So the first thing I want you to know is how the cake is baked here. My goal is to make sure that people when this is over, whether you like Trump, hate Trump, don’t care about Trump, you look at this as more than a few irregularities. Because if this becomes more than a few irregularities in America, then God help us all.”
